ICN’s Applied Research Division (ARD) conducts research and develops resources to assist child nutrition professionals in the successful operation of their programs.Current ARD Research Projects:

Environmental Scan of Student Engagement Practices in Support of Child Nutrition Programs

The results of this project will be used to identify best practice strategies for successfully engaging students in school meals.

Exploratory Investigation of the Roles, Responsibilities, and Impact of Chefs Working in School Nutrition
The results of this project will be used to identify preliminary competencies, knowledge, and skills for chefs working in school nutrition; verify Healthy Kids Collaborative competencies; and identify best practices for hiring chefs in schools.

Education and Training Needs Assessment for State Agency Professionals that Work with

School Nutrition Programs
The results of this project will be used to identify the current training and education needs of state agency professionals that work with school nutrition programs.
Competencies, Knowledge and Skills of School Nutrition Assistants / Technicians
This resource will establish performance standards for school nutrition assistants and technicians.
Exploring the Implementation of child and adult care feeding programs (CACFP)
Policies and Regulations
The results of this project will be used to develop a simple, easy-to-use resource to support CACFP sponsors in implementing local, state, and federal policies and regulations.
