In the past few years, many schools and districts have successfully collaborated with students, families, and community members to implement new culturally inclusive recipes in school meals programs.  Successful collaboration comes in many formats. Learn about different ways to collaborate, and explore resources to inspire cultural collaboration.

Spiced beef, jollaf rice, and smashed beans with a cabbage slaw was the first successful menu item at Westbrook High School.
The Westbrook School Department of School Nutrition Services in Maine used grant funds to develop recipes for their school meals in collaboration with African immigrant students and community members.  Their collaboration resulted in creating nine new recipes and three new school meals menu items.

Seattle Public Schools in Washington has collaborated with the Seattle Office of Sustainability & the Environment (OSE) and the Muckleshoot Indian Tribe to purchase and prepare local salmon for their school meal program. Seattle Public Schools acknowledges their partnerships with the Muckleshoot Indian Tribe and the Squamish Tribe on their district website.
