Historical/Biographical Sketch: The Vermont Department of Education’s Child Nutrition Programs administers the federal programs that support nutritious meals and snacks in schools, day care settings, and summer program sites. The Department’s mission is to ensure that nutritious, high-quality meals and snacks are served to program participants in all eligible sites in Vermont. They support program sponsors through program guidance, technical assistance, training, monitoring, and evaluation to assure that every program receives the maximum federal and state funding available. The Department sponsors, with the Vermont School Food Service Association, an annual two-day conference that offers seminars on topics relevant for managers and food service staff.
Scope and Content: The collection consists of publications and printed materials from the USDA, Food Research and Action Center and other state departments of education. There is also a file of printed programs and schedules from the annual School Nutrition Conference sponsored by the Vermont Department of Child Nutrition Programs and the state School Food Service Association. The collection also contains a file of “History of School Food Service” overheads previously used as part of a presentation.
