Amanda Ewest
After working in two other school districts in Minnesota, Amanda landed in Minneapolis Public Schools 7 years ago working her way up from Food Service Assistant to becoming the Menu Administrator in 2023. Her lifelong enthusiasm for cooking and feeding others lends itself well to this position. Learning as much as she can about leadership will enable me to share this passion with others.
Amy Stanley
Amy Stanley is a dedicated professional with a robust career in education and school nutrition. She has accumulated over twenty-five years of experience, starting her journey with Columbus County Schools in North Carolina and moving through various roles in finance and child nutrition across several counties in NC. Currently, Amy holds the position of Child Nutrition Director for New Hanover County Schools in Wilmington, NC, a role she assumed after serving as the Director of School Nutrition for Bladen County Schools for twelve years.
Amy’s educational background includes a Bachelor of Science in Business Administrative Management and Organizational Development from Mount Olive College. Her involvement in professional associations underscores her commitment to her field; she is an active member of the School Nutrition Association of North Carolina, where she has held multiple leadership positions including District Director, Treasurer, Vice President, President-Elect, and President. Additionally, she is affiliated with the North Carolina Association of School Administrators and the North Carolina Association of School Business Officials.
Outside of work, Amy values spending quality time with her family and friends, reflecting her dedication to both her professional and personal life.
Denielle Saitta
Denielle Saitta is a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist working as the Coordinator of Marketing & Communications for the Fulton County School Nutrition Program. Denielle is responsible for coordinating marketing and communication strategies to encourage and obtain support for the child nutrition program from the Board of Education, administration, students, parents, and community. Using online and print techniques, Denielle has fostered and implemented media coverage of program events with program website content, monthly newsletters to stakeholders, district brochures, letters to parents and staff, news releases, social media updates, and community presentations. As an advocate for school nutrition and children, Denielle writes proposals for awards and nutrition education grants.
Often referred to as the “School Nutrition Cheerleader”, Denielle’s dedication, positive energy, and contributions to the program are immeasurable. Denielle can be found working hands-on with foodservice workers on the serving line, composing principal letters for supervisors or managers, dressing up in a mascot costume to entertain students, or presenting to community partners. Her positive energy, caring attitude, and enthusiastic spirit is evident throughout her awards, communications, school promotions, and team morale.
Heather Shambry
Heather Shambry is the Child Nutrition Program Director for Sumter County Schools located in Alabama’s Black Belt Region. She has been employed in this role for 11 years. Her prior work experience includes serving as Early Head Start Nutrition/Parent Involvement and Family Literacy Coordinator, Nutrition/Fiscal Specialist, and Nutrition Assistant over a span of three years with a community action agency offering Head Start. She received a Bachelor of Science in Human Environmental Science degree, double majoring in Food and Nutrition and African American Studies from The University of Alabama. She was the first to complete the African American Studies program as a major. She is currently pursuing a Master of Science degree in Health Studies, along with a Graduate Certificate in Conflict Resolution, at The University of Alabama. She plans to become a Certified Health Education Specialist. Heather received her School Nutrition Specialist credential last year after sitting for the exam on her 10-year work anniversary on July 8, 2023 at the School Nutrition Association’s Annual National Conference in Denver, CO. She volunteers in her community and is an active member of the Alabama School Nutrition Association where she has recently completed her first year on the Executive Board as Nominating Chair and will be serving the upcoming school year as Resolutions & Bylaws Chair. Heather takes pride in the experiences her and her staff are able to offer students in the cafeteria and the partnerships created to provide students in need with meals for the weekend.
Heidi Jacobs
Hi, I’m Heidi Jacobs. First and foremost a grandmother of 3 adorable grand daughters!! Next mother of 1 incredible son and 1 daughter that amazes me daily!! I started my school nutrition journey 20 years ago when me youngest started school as a way to be closer to my kids and also wanted to be involved in the school community! I had no idea where that journey would take me!! I’ve loved everything about my job! I love learning more and more everyday, child nutrition and diets have become close to my heart as two of my granddaughters are celiac (4yrs and 2 yrs old!) the things I knew before they were diagnosed came in so handy as we have navigated on this journey!
Jessica McKinney
Hello, My name is Jessica McKinney. I’m the West End Area Manager for the Hamblen County School District, bringing seven years of experience in school nutrition to my role. Recently promoted, I’m a proud graduate of the TSNA Leadership Academy and TSNA Culinary Academy, class of 2024. I also serve on the TSNA Bylaw Committee. With a deep passion for my work, I’m enthusiastic about the future and the positive impact I can make in the field of school nutrition.
Johnna Beard
Mrs. Johnna Rembert Beard is a proud Samford alumni and has served as the Executive Director of Child Nutrition for Montgomery Public Schools for 6 years. She is the founder and owner of Inspire Nutrition Solutions, a consulting business that focuses on improving child nutrition programs through financial management, administrative review prep, and other areas in order to be successful. She is passionate about feeding children nutritious meal and believes it sets a positive foundation for good habits throughout their lives. When she isn’t advocating for Child Nutrition, she enjoys raising money for St. Jude’s Hospital, spending time with her family, traveling, and reading.
Juana Moore
Juana Moore started her food service journey in 2004. She attended Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts and graduated with an AS in Occupational Science. She attended The Art Institute of Atlanta and graduated with a BA, Culinary Business Management. After working 12 years in the industry and its very chaotic schedule Juana looked to school nutrition. Juana started with Fulton County as a FSW in March 2016, by September 2016 she had advanced to the MIT program. She became a Manager in 2017-2022. In March of 2022 she was promoted to Area Supervisor. She hasn’t looked back since leaving the industry. Pride to be a part of the #LunchLadySquad. Always looking for the next level up and opportunity to be Great!
Karen Buendia
Karen has been in Child Nutrition for 30 years. She has worked at Carrollton Farmers Branch ISD within this school district for 23 years. Karen started out as a Cook and did this for 2 years, then began her training to be a school site Manager as a Manager trainee, doing this for 1 year. The following school year, she became the manager at one of the Elementary schools and held this position for 21 years. Karen left the school district for her current position as Child Nutrition Assistant with Harmony Public Schools, where she has been for 6 years. She still loves what she does and, over the years, maintains a strong passion for making things better for the students.
Laura Fails
Laura Fails is the Food Service Director for USD 320 in Wamego, Kansas. Laura grew up in Oklahoma but her family has called Kansas home for the last twenty-four years. She graduated with a B.A. in History from Oklahoma State University in 1993. Laura has been in school nutrition since 2005 and has served as director since 2008. She is a past SNA State President and is currently serving as the North Central Area Rep for SNA-KS. In August she will join the SNA Board as the Mountain Plains Region Representative on the Membership Committee. Laura is also a cadre trainer for the KSDE Child Nutrition & Wellness team. She serves on several district committees and volunteers regularly with Thrive!, a local nonprofit organization dedicated to the mission of reducing poverty by building skills and relationships that strengthen families and individuals. Laura and her husband live out in the country, where they enjoy the quiet and beauty of the Flint Hills. They love to travel and spend time with their two adult children.
Mellanie Kibel
With over nine years in school nutrition, including six years as the School Nutrition Director at a private school, Mellanie is excited about her new role as the School Nutrition Projects Manager at Caroline County Public Schools. In this position, her primary focus will be to develop a robust Farm to School program. Building on Caroline County’s existing initiatives, she sees this as a unique opportunity to implement and expand upon the Farm to School principles in a district with a rich agricultural heritage. By leveraging and enhancing the work already underway, we can maximize the program’s results and create a sustainable, impactful model for school nutrition and local agriculture integration.
Nick Dramis
Nick Dramis is the Supervisor of Culinary Operations for the Marysville Joint Unified School District (MJUSD) in Marysville in California. His passion for food and people has led to nearly 20 years as a culinary professional. His experience spans from restaurant, catering and hotel cuisine to a decade at Whole Foods Market, where he held roles ranging from executive chef to prepared foods team leader.
When Nick decided to leave the conventional food service industry to pursue a career in school food service, it was a step taken with great excitement. The appeal of positively impacting the way children eat in school and the opportunity to be a part of the scratch cooking revolution was too strong to resist.
In his spare time, he enjoys cooking and working on his classic cars, and spending time with his family.
Randal “RJ” Lane
After working in restaurants and bakeries for 25 years, Randal came to West Contra Costa Unified District to improve scratch meals for 10,000 students each day. At the district’s central kitchen, Randal is part of a management crew that oversees a staff of 50 on-site employees and an additional 200 employees based in kitchens across the district.
Rhima Ramirez
Rhima recently celebrated her 17th year with Twin Rivers Unified School District – Nutrition Services Department as a Cafeteria Team Leader. It has been the most rewarding “job” and career.
As of January 2024, she is one of twenty-four people who proudly graduated from the inaugural cohort group of the Healthy School Food Pathways Fellowship Program through the Chef Ann Foundation.
She is grateful for the experience and knowledge she has gained during her tenure at Twin Rivers Unified at Orchard Elementary. Her fellow staff members, parents, and students whom she has met and bonded with along the way have been a great example of what a community should be about.
Now she is embarking on a new adventure within her career path as a newly appointed Child Nutrition Supervisor with Tomball ISD.
Ryan Cengel
Ryan is a Registered Dietitian with 9 years of experience in school nutrition. His educational background includes undergraduate degrees in culinary arts and culinary nutrition (Johnson & Wales University) and master’s degrees in education (North Park University) and nutrition (Arizona State University). He is a licensed Texas teacher in Science, Health Science Technology and Health and is certified as a School Nutrition Specialist (SNS) through the School Nutrition Association. Ryan is also a Returned Peace Corps Volunteer having served as a Health Volunteer in Niger from 2004-2006 working on nutrition, maternal and child health and food and water security development projects.
Stephanie Gates
Stephanie has been working in the field of school food service since 2007. She started her
journey in this industry as a kitchen prep when her oldest son entered kindergarten, and over
the years, she has taken on various responsibilities and positions. In 2016, Stephanie earned the School Nutrition
Specialist Certification.
As a Food Service Professional, the overarching goal is to ensure kids are excited about school meals. My purpose and gratitude
stems from the smiling faces of the students. I love “scratch cooking” in the kitchen and also like to see the kids excited about different
meals.
Stephanie and her husband Larry have two sons, Tanner and Tucker. Stephanie loves spending time with her family and you can
usually find them on Harriman Reservoir in Wilmington, VT boating in the summer and snowmobiling or ice fishing in the winter
