The School of Applied Sciences at the University of Mississippi is seeking a skilled visionary leader to serve as the permanent Executive Director for the Institute of Child Nutrition (ICN). The ICN Executive Director will be expected to maintain the national status and respect the Institute has developed over the decades and provide new visionary leadership to further accomplish the mission of ICN in alignment with the School and University missions to provide greater sustainability through innovation, academic/research partnerships and evidenced based outcome measures, and continued national and local engagement with multiple stakeholders.

The executive director of ICN is a 12-month, executive level position, reporting to the Dean of the School of Applied Sciences, and is responsible for the visionary leadership and administrative oversight of all ICN activities including serving as principal investigator (PI) for ICN grants and cooperative agreements and peer-reviewed research.  The University of Mississippi is an EOE/AA/Minorities/Females/Vet/Disability/Sexual Orientation/Gender Identity/Title VI/Title VII/Title IX/504/ADA/ADEA employer. Job Responsibilities

The Executive Director of ICN reports to the Dean of the School of Applied Sciences and may serve on school and UM committees to maintain strong and current UM engagement.

The ICN Executive Director will:

  1. Serve as a leader in child nutrition venues to direct national training and professional education initiatives provided by the ICN.
  2. Serve as principal investigator (PI) for ICN grants and cooperative agreements which includes collaborative leadership and strategic visioning with the Applied Research Division located at the University of Southern Mississippi (USM) located in Hattiesburg, MS,
  3. Serve as the academic liaison for university-based academic partnerships and collaborations.
  4. Provide administrative oversight for the ongoing development and maintenance of an online resource and course management system with national access and a child nutrition archive which serves as the national repository for materials related to the history of child nutrition programs.

Minimum Qualifications

The successful candidate will:

Possess a Ph.D. in Child Nutrition, Human Nutrition, Food or Nutrition Science, Community Nutrition or a closely related area and an academic record commensurate with an academic appointment at the appropriate rank.

Have a strong research record that provides the evidence based foundation to function as a national expert and advocate for expanded external funding and partnerships needed to expand and develop needed resources within child nutrition programs.

Possess the scope of knowledge of child nutrition environments needed to provide administrative oversight of multiple training, research and resource dissemination venues.

Exhibit leadership qualities needed to maintain positive intra and inter agency collaborative relationships to achieve the ICN mission.

Have at least three years of administrative experience.

Have experience in development and receipt of extramural funding through various venues.
