The Institute of Child Nutrition is a recognized leader in providing training to diverse populations across the nation. The ultimate goal of all ICN trainings is the continuous improvement of child nutrition programs. The following resources will be available in February 2018:

Foundations for Training Excellence: Basics, Forecasting the Procurement of Foods, Buy American

  • Foundations for Training Excellence: Basics – This course is part of an ongoing effort by ICN to develop and support a national network of trainers. The intended audience of this 4 hour face-to-face training is anyone who wishes to become a more effective trainer. This training will assist participants in assessing their current skill levels and encourage further professional development. It will also give participants training tools and resources to take back to their workplace to use immediately.
  • Forecasting the Procurement of Foods – This 4 hour face-to-face training provides general concepts about the basic foundations of forecasting for the procurement of foods in Child Nutrition Programs. This training does not discuss federal regulations pertaining to the procurement system. The purpose of this training is to assist stakeholders in identifying key considerations for forecasting for the procurement of foods in federally funded meal programs.
  • Buy American – This 90 minute face-to-face training provides general concepts about the Buy American provisions when procuring food for federal school nutrition programs. This training does not replace information provided by current USDA policy memos or procedures determined by the State Agency. This training is intended to provide knowledge for the stakeholders that can lead to the success in applying these requirements during their food purchasing and contract monitoring activities. This training is intended for school nutrition directors and anyone responsible for the procuring of foods in the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) or School Breakfast Program (SBP).
