Info about STAR

To meet the unique training, technical assistance, and professional development needs of school nutrition managers/site-level supervisors, ICN has launched the School Nutrition S.T.A.R. (Strategies, Trainings, Action Plans, and Resources) initiative to help schools develop goals and best practices to improve program administration and operations.  In an effort to ensure success, selected managers/site-level supervisors will participate in ongoing activities over a 12-month period.

What’s required to participate?

  • Director’s Approval: An email will be automatically submitted to your director once you complete the director’s information piece of the application and hit submit.  ICN will notify you upon receipt from your director.
  • Travel to Oxford, MS: If selected, participants must travel to Oxford, MS for the 2 1/2 day workshop being held October 10-12, 2018.  ICN will reimburse travel expenses according to the ICN travel policy.
  • Complete Application by Deadline: Application must be received by ICN on or before August 24, 2018.  This also means your director must complete their portion by this deadline.

Participant Expected Outcome: Exclusive certificate and designation once all components are successfully completed!

    • Resources and Training on Meal Preparation and Service, Procurement and Inventory Management, Nutrition and Menu Management, Marketing, Communication, and Customer Service
    • Action Plan Development
    • Coaching on Group Facilitation
    • Peer-to-Peer Networking and Sharing of Strategies and Best Practices
  • Mentoring up to 4 times within a 12-month period
  • Online courses
  • Virtual-led trainings
  • Monthly webinar series
  • Teach-back opportunities to train frontline staff within your district using Manager’s Corner curricula
